Bluetooth Tags measure defined quantity (Temperature, Humidity, Movement, Distance etc.) and they advertise data to surrounding environment. Advertisement can be heard with a bluetooth -gateway which sends it to cloud for database storing, for further handling and finally to remote view platform. Performing measurement and installation with tags is known to be super easy since 99.99% of tags are battery -operated, small and totally wireless. Usually gateway is able to capture more than one tag at a time; for example in the case of trailers, one tracking unit captures sensors from all tires and all temperature tags installed. Distance from tag can be heard, depends on the tag itself. Distance varies from meters to hundreds of meters. Wireless measurement system are nowadays known to be more reliable, flexible and cheaper compared to wired ones.
Bluetooth Tracking is based on assumption that if gateway finds a tag, it locates near the gateway. Since the location of the gateway is usually known, we also know the location of the target with the tag. In Bluetooth container -tracking, containers are equipped with tags and transport vehicles are equipped with tracking units serving as bluetooth gateways; After leaving the container, the tag will be "lost" and the marker will be set into coordinates the gateway saw it last time. Tags are usually very small so Bluetooth tracking is a great way to track also smaller things, like tools. Costs with this kind of tracking are low compared to GPS -tracking, and it will make the tracking of even smallest assets considerable. Always when utilising a bluetooth -measurement system, bluetooth tracking system will be utilised by accident ;)
Bluetooth tags are a convenient tool for indoor tracking.. If tracking assets or humans, tags are moving with the targets and gateways are installed into known locations inside the building. Accuracy of the tracking system depends on the amount of gateways; if there is one per each room, it can be easily be said which room the tag is in. Accuracy would be 'one room' in that case. Accuracy can be increased with adding gateways: If there is more than one unit hearing a tag, then the signal strength and triangular algotrithms will come into picture for better accuracy. If talking about forklift -truck indoor logbook, wired gateways are installed to forklifts: More rapid the tags are being scanned, and larger number of tags placed in the environment; better location accuracy will be gained. With our installations, accuracy of 1m has been seen.

With battery operated gateways the system will be installed in minutes and later tuning (moving the gateways) is easy to do. With battery operated devices there is possible also to utilise more complex systems: For example with container GPS-tracking, the tracking units can also scann tags and hear waste- or wood chip -pile temperature sensors while also updating GPS for containers. Among our battery operated tracking units, OYSTER and REMORA can serve as a bluetooth gateway. Wireless installation helps especially with first tests!

Wired devices are enabling continuous sensor and tag scanning giving more data compared to battery powered devices. From our vehicle- and IOT-tracking units Dart, G70, G150 and Hawk are working as gateways. These units are versatile and Bluetooth measurement system can be only a part of a more complex measurement and monitoring -system. Example for this kind of system would be to monitor vehicle fuel tank, capture tyre pressures, updating real time location of the vehicle while also monitoring tools or equipments taken with.
